Islamic perspective:

Sisters first is keen to promote fitness among Muslim ladies and girls. Sports are highly encouraged in Islam, in particular those that increase preparedness against adversity.

Remember what the Prophet Muhammad (may peace and blessings upon him) said:
"Teach your children swimming and archery..."
(on the authority of Ibn 'Umar in al-Bayhaqi)

This direct call to practice sports shows the great importance Islam places on sports and demonstrates that physical strength and sound fitness are desirable and valuable qualities to find in a believer.

Your body has the right to sleep every day, as well as the right to have it kept fit and healthy by the benefactor of the body: YOU! So your body needs exercise and a moderate, controlled amount of food etc. Should we not show gratitude towards Allah for our body by taking care of ourselves / our bodies?

Just as doctors and dieticians highly stress taking care of our physical bodies by exercising, Islaam also holds us to account for managing our body and health.

Believers in Islam must take care of their spiritual, emotional and physical health.

Our bodies, the most complex of machines, are given to us as a trust (amaanah) from Allah (subhaanah wa ta'ala). They should not be abused or neglected but maintained in good order. We will be called to account on the Day of Judgment by Allah for how we took care of our bodies and nourished them, not allowing them to weaken and succumb to disease.

Imam Ibnul-Qayyim (in "Zad-Al-Ma`aad") states that movements helps the body to get rid of excess food (calories) in a very natural way, strengthens the body's immune system and protects it from diseases. Each organ has its own sport that suits it.

You are the one who needs to make the change, the one who makes the first step first

"...Allah does not change the conditions of a people until they change their own condition..."
surah ar-Ra'd 13:11

So get up and do something!
